Sports Premium

Sport is central to life at St George the Martyr School. Achievement and effort is encouraged through team and individual games at school and through inter-school competitions and tournaments. We believe that sport helps to build confidence and promotes our school values of excellence, determination, fair play and teamwork. We offer a range of sports and encourage a life-long positive attitude towards healthy living and sport.

PE is taught by specialist sports coaches and organised by our PE Co-Ordinator Andrew Butt, activities include swimming at the Oasis Swimming Pool, Netball, Football, Athletics, Dance, Cricket, games and Gymnastics. St George the Martyr has access to excellent sports facilities due to our proximity to Coram's Fields and recently we have been using Regents High Secondary School to play in Football games afterschool.

Specialist instructors take swimming lessons at Oasis Pool in small groups. Children are assessed regularly and receive certificates as they progress to swimming longer distances.

We also have a lot of sports club on offer for children from Year 1 - Year 6 each day after school, these include:

Football, Gymnastics, Tennis, Ball Games, Multisports, Dodgeball and Cricket. We also have a Gifted and Talented sports club which is run through the YMCA on Tuesday afterschool. This helps children develop their coaching skills and team building skills.

We encourage children to participate in competitive sport and our school competes in football, netball and cross-country competitions, these are organised by Mr Butt termly. Our annual sports day takes place at Coram's Fields every July.

We also offer after school activities at the YMCA which is co-ordinated by Holly in the school office and Mr Brilliantes. The YMCA offer free afterschool activities such as: Ballet, Karate, Yoga, Trampolining, Football and Tennis.

Pupils are encouraged to try a wide range of outward-bound activities during the Year 6 residential school journey such as climbing, abseiling, high ropes courses, challenge courses, raft building and archery.
